For those of you who are Superman fans, or animation fans, or both, check this out:

A wonderful fan film by animation veteren Robb Pratt (Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pocahontas, Kim Possible, and Kick Buttowski, to name a few). This little film manages to capture much of what's awesome about Superman, remarkably all in the space of a minute. He also manages to make most of the action animation on TV look sick. For those of you who think all great animation has to come from overseas nowadays, take a look at Superman: Classic and see what a tiny group of passionate animators can do, in their free time, with a tiny budget.
Always a pleasure to watch someone create. We need more geeks like this guy!
ReplyDeleteGet on it Rob.
I would actually love to see an article by you wherein you talk about wether or not the "Boy Scout" "Paladin" Superhero can really exist today with any popularity.... what is different about the 30s, 40s, and 50's. Kids are still kids right?
Im loving Young Justice... maybe one of the slickest cartoons in a while... Even there, they are really treating Superman as a petulant child.
Your Thoughts...
Hmmm...I believe I may tackle that article.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying Young Justice myself. As for their portrayal of Superman...eh. The only reason they're playing him that way is so they can justify Superboy's loose cannon status. It's more dramatic if the team's arguably most powerful memeber is angry and emotional, so they justify his behavior by making Superman distant and unwilling to mentor him (for reasons that really haven't been adequately explained -- though I can understand his popping off when Superboy is referred to by Batman as Superman's "son" when Superman had no hand at all in his creation). It's not in character, but it's shoehorned in by the writers to make other stuff make sense. I really hate that kind of writing.
Still, other than that (and the block of wood Aqualad, who I hope they do SOMEthing with to make him interesting) I'm really enjoying the show!
